Proposed Pipelines

Harlaston has been chosen to have a section of the proposed pipeline passing through many acres of farmland.

It is proposed to install two pipelines to carry treated discharge from the sewage works at Measham and Packington to the River Tame at Elford and up to 10 discharges of partially treated storm oveflows would be permitted.

This discharge currently goes into the River Mease which then enters the River Trent between Catton and the National Memorial Aboretum. The River Tame also runs into the river at approximately the same point.

This project is simply bi-passing the Mease to address the flow and nutrient issues and helps restore the important "Special Area of Conservation (SAC)" to favourable conservation status.

More information is available on website at "Packington Measevalley Pipeline"

A solar farm could be built on land at Haunton Farm, which is located between Haunton and Harlaston.  The public consultation has been launched by the developer,  with a view to a formal planning application being submitted.

If constructed, the solar farm could provide energy for over 15000 homes.  The developer suggests that this could save 21,000 tonnes of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) per annum compared with energy generated from other sources.  The land would continue to be used for some agricultural purpose whilst the solar farm is generating energy.

The public consultation launched on Monday 13th July 2020.  The developer is providing information throughout the application process to the public primarily through a website www.hauntonsolar.com

To date, this website contains an overview of the proposal, site plan and a construction traffic plan.  It is proposed that  construction traffic will arrive at the site via Syerscote Lane.

Questions and concerns can be submitted to the developer through:

Please note, for your concerns or comments to be taken into account as part of the formal decision making process you will need to submit them to Lichfield District Council Planning department during the formal consultation period after the developer has submitted their planning application.

If you would like your comments relating to this proposal added to the Harlaston Village website please send your comments to
