Millennium Celebrations
People approached the new Century with a sense of foreboding- for in an age where many things relied on computers there had been an ommission. No one knew what would happen when 1999 turned to 2000. Would things be able to cope or would the Millennium Bug as it was known grind everything to a halt?
Luckily patches were made to ensure that computers kept working and so we celebrated the new century with fireworks and a lot more besides.

Millennium Flower Festival
"What a week that was !"
The Church looked absolutely beautiful - the ladies worked hard for many hours and and our sincere and grateful thanks go them all (some friends came from other villages to help). We must say a special "thank you" to Isobel who was poorly during the week, but carried on in spite of a sore throuat and nose bleeds etc.
Staying open during the week gave us 57 hours to cover on the rota - again we had great support - 34 people gave up their time either at weekends or on weekdays; a wonderful community effort. The festival was organised as a celebration, not really a fund raising event, but with generous donations, sale of booklets, prints and plants plus the Ladies Choir Concert, the Church funds have gained approximately £400.
Many, many thanks to everyone who helped in any way.
Millennium Tea Towels
These have been a real success, in fact a sell out.
Millennium Memories - 100 Years of Harlaston
David Grove and the Millennium Committee would like to thank everyone who attended the exhibition and for the many kind comments which helped to make the exhibition such a success. Although entrance was free, donations amounting to £400 have been divided equally between the Village Hall Roof Fund and the Millennium Screen for Harlaston Church. A quiz of relics was won by Clifford (Mick) Brown (adult) and Chris Jones (youn person).
Many attended the exhibition and the Visitors Book has recorded a number of these. Visitors came from far afield as Germany, America, The Wirral and Rhyll as well as the more immediate areas of Tamworth, Lichfield, Wolverhampton and Walsall, and closer still Harlaston and Mease Valley visitors. Thank you for all the favourable comments.
We also extend our thanks to Harlaston Village Hall Committee who loaned us the hall not only for the exhibition, but also the many days it took to set up as well; thanks to the many exhibitors, too numerous to mention here, and all the hard work of the committee.
Family Fun Day - Party in the Park
Did we have a good day? It was BRILLIANT!!
Even St Swithin was kind to us - not a drop of rain.
About 100 people attended, ranging from a three month old baby to Grannies abd Grandads in their 70's. The boys enjoyed the football match; the welly wanging, basket ball and golf was very popular, the races fun, even the Mums and Dads race, and as usual the delicious food was soon devoured. Randie was kept busy with the face painting and Clown Harold tried hard to keep everyone in order! The winners went home with certificates and a good time was had by all.
Thank you to all concerned with the planning and providing.
The Barn Dance in the evening was three hours of fun and laughter (isn't it strange how we suddenly don't know our left from our right!!) The caller, Colin, with his wife, Margaret, kept us promenading, do-si-doe-ing and stripping the willow, not to mention line dancing, until everyone was exhausted. Even the children had a dance of their own and were wonderful. I think we can say it was a great way to end the day.
