1995 Best Kept Village
From The Parish Magazine 1995.
Well done - we did it! On Friday 8th September we will be awarded the trophy and £100 for the BKV Small Village in Cannock and Lichfield area; we were also the overall winners from the area. Next year we must not only win again, but win the overall award for the County. The fun is not only in winning, but in working together.
Once again, thank you everyone, those that made the map for the judges, cut the grass verges, loaned or made flower boxes and dug flower beds, collected litter, carted the rubbish and burnt it, mended and painted the arch and church gates, kept the pavement outside their property tidy and for the well kept gardens, we can all be proud.
There will be a meeting at 6 Manor Lane, Harlaston on Monday 18th September at 7.45 p.m. to discuss Autumn planting and what to improve on next year - talking of next year, many thanks goes to Mr and Mrs Moorehead for their donation of a strimmer. It is also felt that we would like to form a committee and working party to raise money to provide a safe surface, fencing and play equipment in the playing field, for the future young people of Harlaston and visiting grandchildren. If you have any suggestions for fundraising, or would like to help, please join us. Together we can do it.
DO NOT FORGET: Friday 8th Spetember - Presentation of the Trophy by Mr Kurt Kalder of the Tamworth Herald and Lichfield Mercury at the church and afterwards a celebration in the Village Hall. We would like to see you there.
