Bishop's Flush
...while Bishop is flushed with pride to open loo
First Flush: Bishop of Wolverhampton, the Rt Rev Clive Gregory had a special duty to attend to when he attended St Matthew's Church in Harlaston which has just had its first-ever toilet installed.
Bishop Clive was given the honour of officially opening the loo by performing the first flush to mark the opening of both the toilet and the kitchen. For hundreds of years the village church had made do without any such convenience, but on Thursday, January 26 Bishop Clive honoured the promise made one year before, and performed 'the Bishop's Flush' - the ceremonial opening.
Installation of this toilet also inspired parishioners to support the charity toilettwinning.org which funds loos at schools and other places in developing countries.
The generosity of church members during the evening will enable two school toilet blocks to be built in a location to be proposed by and agreed with the charity.
A single toilet requires a donation of £60, a community block, £240.
