Grove family history

The Grove family moved here from Haunton in 19-- Frederick had been a farm labourer during the 1930's depression, working on a farm in Ailesbury getting the job not for his farming accumen, rather that he could play a good game of whist and was adept at tennis!

He moved to Church Farm, Harlaston and settled here with his wife Dorothy - a teacher - and had his two children, Frederick (known as David) and Michael.

Sadly, in the same month as finally paying off the farm Frederick died. David was 15 and had to leave Tamworth Grammar where he was studying and run the farm with his mother who, unusually for the times, had kept working as a teacher.

David and Micheal ran the farm together helped by their wives. Margaret was active in the WI and ran the playschool in Edingale, and 'Bel who was also active in the WI and a mainstay at St. Matthews church where her talents at flower arranging especially, were much admired.

David and Micheal were active in all aspects of village life, details of participation and involvement will be added at a later date.

Pie and Pudding Night

What a wonderful evening the Grove family organised for us on March 7th. A very sincere thank you goes to Bel, Michael, Jane and Richard, thier Aunt and Uncle, May and especially Andrea and Brian for all their help. As usual, our ladies provided  delicious pies and puddings, 14 raffle prizes were donated.

A very big thank you to everyone concerned and we are pleased to announce £500 was raised towards our flower festival weekend.

Words of thanks.
