Flower Power raises over £1000
Despite gale-force winds and competition from the WOrld Cup and Wimbledon finals more than £1000 was raised at Harlaston's Flowers and Music weekend.
Villagers can now look forward to being snug and warm when they attend services at St. Matthews through the winter as the money will go towards updating the churches heating system.
"In spite of so much sport on the television and a gale force wind that threatened to blow everything away the weekend was very successful," said churchwarden Mary Tiso who helped organise the event.
Visitors enjoyed the flowers displayed in the 11th Century church.
There were stalls laden with cakes, plants and books for sale and strawberry teas to enjoy.
On Saturday visitors enjoyed a performance by the Beggars Oak Dancers while on Sunday, Amington Brass Band had everyones toes tapping.
A concert entitled Music for a Summer Evening was held at St. Matthew's Church on Saturday evening and was a highlight of the event.
