At Rest Rev Walters

Taken from the Parish Magazine 1993

April 28th: Rev J.E.T. Walters aged 73.

Rector John, as he was known to many of his friends, had been with us for nearly 12 years, previously being at Burntwood for 23 years. He loved the local countryside and always hoped he would be able to complete his ministry here. He enjoyed a special relationship with the children and was always happy to have them around him in church. His services were always conducted with great sincerity and the sermons always most thought provoking and uplifting. He will be sadly missed by everyone here and his many friends both far and near.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Anne, Janet, Tim and all the family.

'Grant him eternal rest, O Lord'

"Whilst it has not been easy coming to terms with the death of our Father, the memory of the service at Harlaston on 7th May, and especially the singing, was a source of great comfort and will never leave us! Our father regarded a funeral service as a celebration of life rather than as a mourning of death - what a triumphant send of you gave him!

"We would like to take this opportunity of conveying our heartfelt thanks for all your wonderful kindness and help over recent weeks, and to reiterate our appreciation to the villagers of Harlaston and Edingale who made the funeral service so memorable."

John's family.
