Over 150 at Harlaston church Fete

Members of St. Matthias (Matthew's) Church, Harlaston, held a successful summer fete in the vicarage grounds on Saturday.

Organisers hoped to raise around £200 as the blazing summer sunshine and the many sideshows and stalls attracted more than 150 to the event.

The fete was opened by Mrs. Phyllis Jones, of Lichfield, whose late husband, Preb. Alfred Jones, was a former Rector at the church.

As well as the usual white elephant stall, there was a cake and grocery table, a tombolla, a selection of toys for the children and a clothes stall.

Colourful entertainment was provided in the form of a fancy dress competition with youngsters sporting well made costumes from cowboys and Indians to nurses and policemen.

"We are very satisfied with the attendance", said Church Warden Mr. E. Mercer. "A lot of hard preparatory work has gone into this fete and the proceeds will give a big boost to church funds".
