At rest

Peter Hill, aged 86 years.

19.04.37 - 08.04.24

We would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to send kind messages of support and sympathy on the recent death of our dad, Peter Hill, on 9th April 2024 aged 86. Beloved husband of the late Rita, Dad to Steve, Marion and Mary and a much loved grandfather and great grandfather.

As many of you know, he had been in hospital for a short time and died peacefully. He leaves a large void in our lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He led a happy, busy and fulfilled life with farming and family.

A service to celebrate his life will be held on Wednesday 1st May 2024 at St. Matthews Church, Harlaston at 10 am.

Peter Hill

Steve, Marion & Mary would like to extend sincere thanks on behalf of the Hill family to everyone in Harlaston involved in making Peter's Celebration of Life so memorable. The weather was kind and the church looked fantastic. There was a warm welcome awaiting the visitors who had travelled from afar and we thank you for making them feel so welcome. The reception committee in church did a great job of seeing everybody had a seat and that all was in place for the service. We know that this all takes time and we appreciate you giving up your time to do this. The churchyard looked beautiful and many of the congregation commented upon the lovely setting of St Matthew's Church so thank you to the small army who maintain the churchyard and keep the village looking so nice. We really appreciated the loan of a small marquee for the extra guests and thank everybody who was involved in erecting and dismantling this. Sincere thanks go to the Ministry team at St Matthew's for their help and support in putting together the service that we wanted and to the Rev John Grice for delivering a wonderful tribute that was personal but reverent, funny and touching and appreciation to the Rev. Nicky Busby for adding her personal tributes and filming the occasion for friends and relations living overseas. Everybody has commentated on what a joyful occassion it was. The village hall made a great venue for the reception which allowed guests to mingle, reminisce and share memories. We send our appreciation to the ladies in the village who visited Peter in the last couple of years to document his life history. Sadly, he died before it could be completed but we hope to fill in any gaps in order for it to be published on the Harlaston website. We give our heartfelt thanks to everybody involved in making Peter's last journey such a smooth and memorable occasion. Having lived in Harlaston all his life, Peter would have been proud of his fellow Harlastonians. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Rita.

Rest in Peace.
