Ed Bailey's Marriage proposal - Mease Valley Parish News

Ed made quite a stir when he decided to propose to Veronica as he chose a public declaration to a more private one. In the Harlaston section of the Parish Magazine Ed asked a very special question.

This was swiftly (well answered in the next-months edition) with Veronica's reply.

This later was covered in the Tamworth Herald - see further down the page

Edward pops the question in print!

Some do it on bended knee, others over a romantic candlelit supper- but Edward Bailey proposed through a notice in the parish magazine!

"So that everyone will know that I have asked you, and to give you the opportunity to turn me down, Edward asks Veronica: Will you marry me?" said the notice in the Mease Valley Parish News which serves villages in the Lichfield and Tamworth area.

Veronica Reynolds said 'Yes' and now the couple, from Harlaston, plan

a summer wedding.

Although they had both lived in the village for many years Edward, a 69-year-old widower, had not met Veronica, a 44 year-old divorcee, until November. Then they found themselves sitting next to each other at a get-together celebrating Harlaston's win in the best-kept-village competition.

"I am an old man, but romance is still as good as it was in the teens." said Edward, a former Birmingham garage owner.
