Best Kept Village Award

Harlaston has regularly entered the Best Kept Village competition over the years in the Lichfield /Cannock Small Village Category competing for the trophy.  The competition has now been renamed the Richard Winteroton Auctioneer's Best Kept Village Competition after the sponsor.  With effect from 2019 the Best Kept Village competition is now co-ordinated by The Community Foundation

" The competition is not about the prettiest village but deciding which village has involved its residents  - individuals, local organisations, all age groups  - and with a large slice of community spirit and involvement, has made it the Best Kept Village in its area, perhaps even in the whole of Staffordshire!" (www.staffs.org.uk)

The focus of the competition is community spirit, residents working together to maintain and improve the appearance, amenities and overall environment.  The preliminary rounds are in May and June.  The finals take place in July

Houses in Harlaston

A survey of houses in the inner village of Harlaston ( properties between the "Harlaston" village signs) shows that since 1938 the number of residences has risen by about 20% every 10 years. In that period we have lost our school but gained a village hall while maintaining our Public House, our Church and our Post Office/shop.

The actual number of houses in the "inner" village has been rising gradually.

If you include Winterdyne and the outlying farms then the increase has been about 19% every 10 years
