Chronicle Herald, Friday, March 22 1974

Harlaston now has a permanent reminded of its 1973 win in the Best-Kept Village Competition.

For on Saturday, villagers were presented with a lime tree marking harlaston's first place in the class for villages with a population under 700.

The tree was planted in the grounds of St. Matthew's School in Manor Lane by the vice-chairman of the Staffordshire branch for the Protection of Rural England, the Rev. Eric Stopford.

There to supervise the planting was nurseryman and tree specialist, Mr. Henry Venables of Stafford, and at the end of the ceremony a vote of thanks was given by Harlaston parish councillor Mr. David Grove.
