Church full of festive flowers

St Matthew's Church, Harlaston, was the scene of great activity at the weekend when villagers poured in to visit the annual flower festival.

The weather was beautiful on both days, and crowds packed the church to see the magnificently arranged flowers, depicting a wide range of nursery rhymes and old songs.

Out of 140 entries, there were 13 correct answers and the winners were Mr and Mrs V Lane of Harlaston.

There was also a 'best dressed hat' competition for the children, and after a tough task of judging, the winners were selected as Richard Grove, Shelly Pendlebury and David Hancock, who each recieved a prize, while the runners up were given a packet of Maltesers.

The weekend was helped along with a raffle, plant stall and teas were served outside in the lovely sunshine.

Festivities ended with a church service of readings and songs, led by the Rev. J Walters.

The hymns were selected by some of the parishioners, who also helped out with refreshments and teas after the service.
