6 mile walk

A sponsored charity walk took place on Sunday to raise money for the adoption of Kanisia, a leper child from Tanzania, for a further year.

Thirty children set off from the church at 9.30 accompanied by a dozen or so parents and friends.

Five year old Julie Latham was the youngest to take part and the oldest member was Mrs. V. King, Baddesley Ensor who accomanied her six year old grandson Christopher Raynor.

All the children whose ages range from 5 years to 10 years completed the six mile route from Harlaston Church through Haunton, and round Syerscote Lane.

Expert help was available from four members of the St. John Ambulance Brigade and the police. Te children were taken to their homes from Wigginton in cars.

The project was the brainchild of Linda Raynor, Theresa Green and Paula Richardson, and was organised by Mrs. Raynor with help from parents and friends.

It is hoped that the children will have raised at least £50 – £60 for charity.

Thanks were expressed to Mrs. Miles, Mrs. Tiso, Mrs. Rowe, Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Green, Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Lunn, Mr. L. Dicken, Linda Cox, Mrs. Brown, for walking with the children and for Mrs. E Tiso for keeping them well supplied with sweets.
