At rest

March 6th Evan Mercer The Homestead Aged 75 years

Evan had lived all his life here in Harlaston. The Church and the village were his life. He had been Churchwarden for 43 years, having helped with the induction of 5 Rectors in that time. For 25 years he was Chairman of the Parish Council. He had also served as a School Governor and in the past was Chairman of the Gardening Guild and Senior Citizens' Committee. He had also represented Harlaston on the committee of Edingale Village Hall and was the only Life Member of the Bowls Club.

He gave his time freely and was always willing to help anyone: whether it was moving a grand piano or taking rubbish to the tip - Evan was there. He was a genuine, loyal friend to many people and will be greatly missed. The village will be a poorer place without him.

We extend our deepest sympathy to Alison, Janet, Christine, Gillian and all their families.

Thanks and appreciation.

Evan Mercer.

On behalf of the family, we would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all who contributed in any way to make Evan's funeral a truely memorable day. The help and support we have recieved from everyone has been of much comfort in our great loss of Evan.

We are particularly indebted to Mary and Eric Tiso for their help in making the necessary arrangements prior to and at the service, and the organisation of the wonderful buffet provided afterwards. The refreshments at thevillage hall were very much appreciated, and we sincerely thank all the ladies who played a part in that.

Our gratitude also goes to Anne North who, as always, has been a tower of strength over the recent weeks in very many ways.

We would like to thank the Rev. Simon Lumby, former Rector Alan Wheale and the Rev. John Fagin for a moving and thoughtful service.

Our thanks are also due to the church organist, to Bel Grove for the flowers in the church, those who provided and organised facilities for parking cars, all who visited Evan in hospital or sent 'Get Well' cards, and for the many expressions of sympathy we have recieved, as well as the donations to St Matthew's Church in memory of Evan.
